UAE's Chess Prodigy Rouda AlSerkal Shines in Norway Chess Open Debut with Stunning Comeback

Rouda AlSerkal at Norway Chess Open

At just 15 years old, UAE's chess sensation Rouda AlSerkal proved that resilience and talent can turn early setbacks into triumphant victories as she concluded her first Norway Chess Open campaign with an unforgettable winning streak in Stavanger.

The nation's first Woman Grandmaster demonstrated poise beyond her years, recovering from an opening loss to Swedish Grandmaster Platon Galperin to finish the prestigious tournament with three consecutive wins that left spectators in awe.

The young champion faced formidable challenges throughout the competition, enduring three additional defeats and securing two hard-fought draws before finding her rhythm. What followed was nothing short of spectacular - a display of strategic brilliance that showcased why she's considered one of chess's most promising young talents.

Rouda ignited her comeback with a decisive victory against Norway's Sigur H. Myny, then maintained her momentum by outmaneuvering Italy's Mauro Pivi and France's Franck Gouanelle in back-to-back matches. While her final tally showed three wins, two draws and four losses, these numbers hardly tell the full story of her remarkable growth during the tournament.

"This experience was about learning more than results," reflected Rouda. "I'm proud I never gave up. Finishing with three straight wins feels incredible - I know I've left stronger than when I arrived, even if there were moments I could have performed better."

Kjell Madland, founder of Norway Chess, praised Rouda's tenacity: "Her journey embodies exactly what we want to achieve with this global platform. Having exceptional young players like Rouda travel from the UAE to compete elevates our tournament and inspires chess communities worldwide."
